One of the most important things is that you feel good about how you look, so you can wear your new designer reading glasses with pride.
Face Shape
The first step in determining what shape of reading glasses to purchase is to look at the shape of your face. The general rule is that you want your reading glasses to contrast your face shape. You also want the overall frame width to be close to the width of your face.
How do you know what shape your face is? Read the following descriptions of the five most common face shapes and compare them to yours as you see it in the mirror.
Oval:The oval face is said to be the perfect shape for glasses because of its balanced proportions. Since an oval face is longer than it is wide, you should look for frames that are wider than the widest part of the face. You may also consider square frames with soft edges or a frame with some detail at the upper temples.
Round: A round face has a curved appearance with similar proportions in the length and width. To contrast this shape you should look for narrow frames (more width than depth) in order to lengthen the face. This will also have a thinning effect. Stay away from large round frames, and aim for a width that is equal to or wider than the broadest part of your face.
Square: A square face is characterized by a broad forehead, a strong jaw line, and wide cheekbones. Like the round face, the square shape has similar lengths and widths, but can be distinguished by the strong angles. To lengthen and soften a square face we advise looking for a narrow frame, or possibly rounded frames with soft edges.
Diamond: A diamond shaped face, which is possibly the rarest of them all, typically have very prominent cheekbones. The face narrows at the jaw line and eye line creating the diamond look. We recommend a frame with detail along the top or sides of the frame. Oval frames will also compliment the diamond shaped face.
Heart: The heart shaped face can be found on both men and women, and is characterized by a broad forehead and a narrow chin. Finding a frame that is wider at the bottom than at the top can help bring balance to this shape. You may also consider light colored or rimless glasses.
Skin Tone
Now that you have determined your face shape, all you need to do is decide if you have a warm or cool complexion. A warm complexion has yellowish undertones, while a cool complexion carries a pink or bluish coloring. You want to look for colors that will match your skin base. Sound tough? We have some recommendations!
If you have a warm complexion, look for light and natural colors such as Gold, Khaki, Orange, Red, Tan, or Camel.
If you have a cool complexion we suggest colors such as Dark Tortoise, Deep Reds, Black, Blue, Pink, or Amber.
Of course, the goal of all this is to make you feel good about how you look! Be bold and choose a fun style that you will love, and your friends will envy. Go ahead, make an impression!
